DriveClub Review: Stalling at the Finish Line | New Game Network

Added: 21.10.2014 3:12 | 8 views | 0 comments

As the Gran Turismo franchise was still clinging to the PlayStation 3 last year, the launch of the PlayStation 4 passed by without a racing title. That launch title was supposed to be Driveclub, the latest effort from Evolution Studios, creators of the Motorstorm franchise. Following a long delay, the game finally arrived on PS4 this month. Rather than offering offroad mayhem, Driveclub aims to position itself as the more accessible alternative to GT and help expand the garage of exclusive racing titles on PlayStation. But even with so much additional development time, Driveclub is an underwhelming experience that lacks in-depth features or engaging content. When Gran Turismo developer Polyphony Digital announced in early 2013 that the sixth installment in their critically acclaimed racing franchise would be coming exclusively to the PlayStation 3, even with the recently announced PlayStation 4 on the horizon, Evolution Studios DriveClub officially became the PS4s one true racing hope. Unveiled alongside the PS4 only weeks earlier, the Motorstorm developers new racer promised the best of all its would-be contemporaries in one irresistible package: The graphical prowess of a next-generation Gran Turismo, the exacting attention to detail and club features of the Forza Motorsport franchise and a bleeding-edge social aspect that would trump both camps.
